That's according to a recent quiz run by Clare FM in conjunction with Avonmore. Breakfast Show presenter, Ciara Revins, travelled throughout the county, challenging pupils to complete a ten-question quiz in 90 seconds and our team, St. John's United, was the only team to score an impressive 10/10! Pupils Arainn Daley, Kyra Collins, Owen Meehan and Aaron Duggan are no strangers to quiz success as three of the four team members recently achieved first place in the science quiz held in Shannon to mark Science Week.
We travelled to Clare FM HQ in Ennis just before Christmas to receive our prize. Pictured below are the winning team, their supporters and Ciara Revins of Clare FM.
In other news, St. John's NS recently welcomed the Liam McCarthy cup to the school. We are great supporters of the Clare Senior Hurling team and were delighted to meet players Aaron Cunningham and Podge Collins. Backroom staff member, Michael Collins, also attended. The pupils sang a rousing rendition of "We're On the Road to Croker" for the assembled. Parents, teachers and pupils alike were delighted to meet the players and staff and were eager to get their hands on the coveted trophy!
As we settle into the term there is much good news to communicate. St. John’s NS took home the coveted Primary Schools Science Quiz plaque for the second year in a row, scoring a staggering 56/60 and beating 53 teams from Shannon and its environs to take the top prize. The quiz was organised by staff and Transition Year students of St. Caimin’s Community School in Shannon.
The winning team was made up of three sixth class pupils: Kyra Collins, Arainn Daley and Owen Meehan, who are pictured below with their proud teacher, Ms. Vera Knowles (right) and Ms. Claire Knight, Deputy Principal of St. Caimin’s Community School.
The winning science team, along with 5th class pupil, Aaron Duggan, has also reached the final of the Clare FM schools quiz. The team will travel to Clare FM HQ in Ennis in the near future for the next round.
Our budding artists have also received attention recently. Senior Infant, Dean Duggan, won first prize in his category for the Credit Union Art Competition, “Gotta Lotta Colour”. Third class pupil, Lucy Huynh, came third in her category in the same competition. Pictured below is Malcolm Simpson of Shannon Credit Union, who presented Dean and Lucy with their prize.
Continuing our artistic success, first class pupil, Matthew Mc Kinney, and sixth class pupil, Owen Meehan, were First Prize winners in their respective categories of the Skycourt/ Shannon Town Council Halloween Art Competition.
The school would like to congratulate Mrs Helen Duggan and Mr Alex Kirk on their appointment to the Board of Management. We would also like to welcome Ms Patricia Gleeson as new Chairperson of the Parents’ Council and new PC committee members, Ms Gwen Mc Kinney and Mr Kieran Collins.
